Getting started with Hövding App (Android)

1. Download the Hövding app from Google Play
Open Play Store on your phone. Search for the Hövding app by typing “hovding” in the search field, then tap INSTALL.

2. Sign up/log in
Open the app and follow the instructions on your phone to sign up or log in to an existing account.

3. Connect your Hövding 3
Make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone. Tap Settings › Connected devices › Connection preferences › Bluetooth, toggle Bluetooth on. You can now connect your Hövding 3 by following the instructions in the Hövding app.

4. Notifications and location
The Hövding app will ask you for permission to send notifications, and to access your location. Please make sure you allow this, for the app to function properly.

 

Getting started with Hövding App (iPhone)

1. Download the Hövding app from App Store
Open App Store on your phone. Search for the Hövding app by typing “hovding” in the search field, then tap GET.

2. Sign up/log in
Open the app and follow the instructions on your phone to sign up or log in to an existing account.

3. Connect your Hövding 3
Make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone. Tap Settings › Bluetooth, toggle Bluetooth on. You can now connect your Hövding 3 by following the instructions in the Hövding app.

4. Notifications and location
The Hövding app will ask you for permission to send notifications, and to access your location. Please make sure you allow this, for the app to function properly

(IMPORTANT: Please make sure that Hövding app always has permission to access your location, to ensure that your trips get logged, and your ICE (In Case of Emergency) contacts get notified in the case of an accident. To do this, tap Settings › Hövding › Location on your phone and choose Always.)

Hövding’s battery discharges fast (Android)

If your Hövding’s battery discharges faster than expected, the device’s Bluetooth connection needs to be reset – this applies even if your Hövding isn’t connected to a phone. You may also need to upgrade Hövding’s firmware/software. Please follow the instructions below.

 

1. Activate sleep mode and charge Hövding
Hold down Hövding’s Multifunction button for 5 seconds, until the Back LED goes out. Then charge Hövding using the included cable (or equivalent USB-C 2.0 cable). Use an external USB-charger in a wall socket. Charge until the Back LED shines with a solid green light. (We can’t guarantee that the battery will charge correctly with other types of chargers/cables.)

NOTE: Use your Hövding and check if the problem has been solved. If it persists – please follow the remaining steps.

2. Download or update Hövding App
Open the Play Store app and search for ‘hovding’, then tap Install or Update. (If the latest version is already installed, tap Open.)

3. Create a user account and log in

(If you’re already logged into a user account – continue to step 4.)

Open Hövding App and tap > until you reach the final screen, then tap Sign up. Create an account using Facebook, Google or email. If you register using email, an activation link is sent to your email address. Tap Log in after you’ve used the activation link.

4. Connect Hövding

(If you’ve already connected your Hövding – continue to step 5.)

Tap Get Started and follow the instructions on the screen. (Charge your Hövding first, if needed – see step 7.)

5. Upgrade Hövding’s firmware/software

(If you’re not prompted to upgrade Hövding, it’s already up to date – continue to step 6.)

Tap Upgrade and then Start upgrade. Keep Hövding close to the phone during the upgrade. (If the update fails, please try again. If the update fails several times, please reinstall Hövding App and try again.)

6. Remove or reconnect Hövding
(6.1) Tap the gear in the top right corner of the main screen. Tap the waste bin, then tap OK.

(6.2) To reconnect your Hövding, tap Get Started on the main screen and follow the instructions on the screen.

7. Charge Hövding

Charge your Hövding using the included cable (or equivalent USB-C 2.0 cable). Use an external USB-charger in a wall socket. Charge until the Back LED shines with a solid green light. (We can’t guarantee that the battery will charge correctly with other types of chargers/cables.)

NOTE: If the fast battery discharge returns after a while, Hövding’s Bluetooth connection needs to be reset again. Connect Hövding to Hövding App (see step 4) and then remove or reconnect Hövding again (see step 6).

Hövding’s battery discharges fast (iPhone)

4. Connect Hövding

5. Upgrade Hövding’s firmware/software

6. Remove or reconnect Hövding
(6.1) Tap the gear in the top right corner of the main screen. Tap the waste bin, then tap OK.

(6.2) Open the Settings app, then tap Bluetooth. Find device names starting with ‘HOVD_’ or ‘PAIR_’. Tap ( i ) next to the device name, then tap Forget This Device.

(6.3) To reconnect your Hövding, open Hövding App and tap Get Started on the main screen. Follow the instructions on the screen.

7. Charge Hövding

Hövding does not connect to the app during setup (Android)

1. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone
Tap Settings › Connected devices › Connection preferences › Bluetooth, toggle Bluetooth on.

2. Remove any Hövding 3 already paired to your phone
Tap Settings › Connected devices and look for a device name starting with “HOVD_”. Tap Settings next to the device name, then Forget. (NOTE: You may also want to look for the device under Settings › Connected devices › Previously connected devices.)

3. Restart the Hövding app and connect your Hövding 3
Close the Hövding app completely and then open the app again. Follow the instructions in the app.

If you still cannot connect:
Toggle Bluetooth “off/on” on your phone
Tap Settings › Connected devices › Connection preferences › Bluetooth, toggle Bluetooth off and then back on. (This usually solves minor connectivity issues)

Restart your phone
Switching your phone off and back on usually solves most connectivity issues.

 

Hövding does not connect to the app during setup (iPhone)

Tap Settings › Bluetooth, toggle Bluetooth on.

Tap Settings › Bluetooth and look for a device name starting with “HOVD_”. Tap  next to the device name, then Forget This Device.

3. Restart the Hövding app and connect your Hövding 3
Close the Hövding app completely and then open the app again. Follow the instructions in the app.

If you still cannot connect:
Toggle Bluetooth “off/on” on your phone
Tap Settings › Bluetooth, toggle Bluetooth off then back on. (This usually solves minor connectivity issues.)

Firmware upgrade keeps failing after several attempts (Android)

1. Remove your Hövdings pairing to your phone.
Go to: Settings › Connected devices and look for a device name starting with “HOVD_”. Tap Settings next to the device name, then Forget.
(NOTE: You may also want to look for the device under Settings › Connected devices › Previously connected devices.)

2. Uninstall the Hövding app.

3. Install the latest version of the Hövding app from App Store.

4. Open the Hövding app, log in and follow the instructions on the screen.

 

Firmware upgrade keeps failing after several attempts (iPhone)

1. Remove your Hövdings pairing to your phone.
Go to: Settings › Bluetooth and look for a device name starting with “HOVD_”. Tap ⓘ next to the device name, then Forget This Device.

2. Uninstall the Hövding app.

3. Install the latest version of the Hövding app from App Store.

4. Open the Hövding app, log in and follow the instructions on the screen.

Trips are not being registered (Android)

In order for your trips to register, Hövding Apps notification ‘channel_hovding’ has to be running on your phone. The app also needs permission to access your location and to share your trip data. Please follow the instructions below. (Depending on model and Android version, the phone’s settings may differ slightly from this guide.)


1. Check Hövding’s connection

Open Hövding App. Make sure that your Hövding is connected and that its status is displayed on the apps main screen.

2. Check Hövding Apps settings and permissions

(2.1) Tap More in the menu bar. Tap App settings, then tap Data sharing. Make sure that Location is ON, then tap Done.

Tap Go to settings, then tap Notifications. Make sure that Show notifications and channel_hovding is ON. Tap the arrow in the top left to go back.

Tap Mobile data & Wi-Fi, and make sure that Background data is ON. Tap the arrow in the top left to go back.

Tap Permissions, then tap Location. Tap Allow only while using the app.

3. Check the phones Location settings

Open the Settings app. Tap Location, and make sure that Use location is ON.

4. Make sure that ‘channel_hovding’ is running

The notification ‘channel_hovding’ has to run on the phone during your trips (a Hövding icon is shown in the status bar). Open Hövding App if the icon is missing – ‘channel_hovding’ will start and the icon will appear.

NOTE: Bring your phone along when cycling with Hövding. Afterwards, check that the trip has been registered in the app.

Trips are not being registered (iPhone)

In order for your trips to register, Hövding App has to be open (or running in the background) on your phone. The app also needs permission to access your location and to share your trip data. Please follow the instructions below. (Depending on model and iOS version, the phone’s settings may differ slightly from this guide.)

Open Hövding App. Make sure that your Hövding is connected and that its status is displayed on the apps main screen.

3. Make sure that Hövding App is running

Hövding App has to be open (or running in the background) on the phone during your trips. If you force close Hövding App you must open it again, for your trips to be registered.

NOTE: Bring your phone along when cycling with Hövding. Afterwards, check that the trip has been registered in the app.
